Help us give Alicia her freedom

Alicia is 22 years old, full of cheekiness and laughter, and loved deeply by everyone around her. We are her family, and we are on a mission to give her more freedom, more comfort, and more adventures. We’re fundraising to get Alicia a motorised wheelchair — something the NHS doesn’t currently fund — which will allow her to move around more independently, experience new places, and live with less daily pain.

Alicia’s Story

Alicia came into the world 10 weeks early on 30 January 2003, surprising everyone with her early entrance. She spent her first seven weeks being lovingly cared for on the neonatal unit at St Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth.

During those first few days, Alicia suffered a haemorrhage to her brain. At just six months old, she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Hydrocephalus — a condition where fluid builds up on the brain. To manage the Hydrocephalus, Alicia underwent surgery to have a VP shunt inserted.

Alicia’s conditions mean she needs 24-hour care, which her devoted parents Lee and Sharon provide every day alongside her wider care team. She also lives with epilepsy and a global developmental delay.

Alicia has three siblings — Kayleigh and twin sisters Courtney and Scarlett — and is surrounded by a loving, close-knit family who are her biggest champions.

Despite everything she faces, Alicia is a true joy. She is our princess, and we are determined to do everything we can to make her life as comfortable, happy, and full of adventure as possible.

Why we fundraise

Alicia experiences daily pain and discomfort in all of her limbs and muscles. She takes various medications to help manage this, and intensive therapies such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, and speech and language therapy make a real difference to her comfort and quality of life. Sadly, none of these are funded by the NHS.

Right now, we are raising money for a motorised wheelchair that will transform Alicia’s daily life — giving her greater freedom, reducing her discomfort, and opening up a whole new world of experiences and adventures.

Once we reach our wheelchair goal, we will continue fundraising for the private therapies that help ease her pain, improve her sleep, and support her development.

Every donation, share, and word of support brings us one step closer. Thank you for being part of Alicia’s journey. 💛
